VIRUS SURGE TO GAIN PLAYOFF SPOT The Virus have gone on a twelve-game undefeated streak--including a eight game winning streak--to claim the fourth and final playoff spot in their conference. Virus GM Dave Hodgson is pleased with his team's recent turn-around, but has not lost his hold on reality.
"The team has really come together and meshed as one, like I've been waiting for them to do all year," he says. "We're really happy about what we've accomplished, but we haven't stopped checking on the Wolves in our rear-view mirror. Nor do we intend to stop moving upward."
This streak has allowed several team members to achieve some great results. Defenseman and team captain Ray Bourque has moved into a league second in assists with 65, and is now first in defenseman points with 78. As well, goaltender Arturs Irbe has locked out the opposition three times in his 17 games with the Virus, more shutouts than in his 48 games with the Weasels.
