LEETCH ACQUIRED FROM MUSTANGS
Today the Weasels finished a deal with the Mustangs that sent out the very talented, promising forward Scott Gomez and prospect defender Hal Gill, along with $500,000, for offensive defenceman Brian Leetch. GM Andy Sayers commented, "We do take on a lot more salary, and we lose two top prospects for one veteran, but I think this will solidify our defence as one of the top in the league."
YOUNG ACQUIRED FROM MUSTANGS
Two days ago the Mustangs and Weasels announced a deal that sent youngsters Valeri Bure and Ivan Novoseltsev to the Mustangs for veteran winger Scott Young. "We thought that Bure had good potential, and he has been on fire as of late, but we feel that the overall goal is to improve the team, and we feel that Young will do that for us. It just gives us another veteran scoring presence," said Sayers.
WOOLLEY ACQUIRED FROM ACES
In a deal that will more than likely come under review from the Trade Council, the Weasels acquired veteran d-man Jason Woolley from the Aces for young d-man Nolan Pratt and $500,000. Sayers said, "The trade may not look completely fair, but Pratt is young and has a very low contract, while Woolley is an under-achieving, high-paid, veteran. There is also some money as an incentive. Also, the Aces' GM approached us with the deal, so he knows full well what he was doing. I think he just plain didn't need Woolley, so instead of paying him to sit he went with a younger, cheaper alternative that he can sit on the farm team and watch develop."
