NOLAN REPLACED AS COACH
A few days ago the Weasels officially fired coach Ted Nolan and replaced him with veteran coach John Muckler. "We feel this is a step in the right direction. It's a step towards salvaging this season," said GM Andy Sayers. Under coach Nolan the Weasels have hovered just above the .400 mark. "The team's winning percentage was well below par, and the coach is obviously in the middle of all operations done by the team. I think it was just time for a change," Sayers was quoted as saying.
GOMEZ ACQUIRED
The Weasels are happy to announce that they have finally acquired young centerman Scott Gomez. GM Andy Sayers said, "We had been trying to get Scott for quite some time, and now that we have him we are very, very happy. He's a very promising young talent and we think he'll flourish playing with wingers Mark Recchi and Markus Naslund." To pull off the deal the Weasels had to complete a number of complicated deals. First, GM Andy Sayers traded defencemen Willie Mitchell and Sean O'Donnell to the Demons for defenceman Jaroslav Spacek. Then they dealt Spacek to the Scorpions for tough defenceman Rhett Warrener. Finally, they traded Warrener to the Phantoms for Gomez. "All of those deals may seem a little excessive, but I assure you they were all necessary. The Phantoms made it clear that they wanted a d-man of equal value for Gomez, something we didn't have. So we packaged up two of our d-men for Spacek, who was not desired by the Phantoms. We then used Spacek as bait for Warrener, who the Phantoms were interested in, and the rest is history," said Andy. "We are just excited to have a guy like Gomez on our club."
